More Than a Woman

More Than a Woman

Prologue: Facing Up 1

MY FAVOURITE DROPS

“More than a woman.”

Mpilo’s TAKE

This is a phrase that functions less as a title and more as a philosophy of transcendence. Like the chapter, it challenged me to rethink womanhood not as a biological or social role, but as a state of becoming. The author resists narrow definitions and instead frames womanhood as resilience, consciousness, and moral agency shaped by history, culture, and struggle. What I liked most about the chapter is how the author situates personal identity within broader social systems. The chapter does not isolate women’s struggles from colonialism, patriarchy, or economic inequality, but shows how these forces intersect to shape lived experience. I would thus say my key takeaways are that identity is not fixed rather it is shaped and reshaped by awareness. Empowerment requires confronting inherited limitations. As such, women’s liberation is inseparable from societal transformation. To be “more than a woman” is therefore to reclaim humanity beyond imposed roles, a process that begins with self-awareness and courage.
