“Oppression is evil; it bears nothing but pain… yet the long-term costs render it a very poor investment for any country, people or class.”

Makhosonke’s TAKE

This chapter is a call to see beyond colour, creed, or class, to embrace a humanism that values empathy over dominance. The author’s global reflections on oppression, from colonialism to nationalism, reveal how division always leads to suffering for all. I appreciated the honesty with which the author exposes the futility of control. The argument that even masters live imprisoned by their systems of oppression is powerful and humbling. Human progress will only begin when we stop dividing the world into black and white, superior and inferior, us and them, and simply start living as one human family.
